Favre Finally Retires, Exciting Vikings, Since That Means He’s Playing

Nothing adds more ESPN content year after year over the summer than the Favre retirement sagas. Yesterday, all reports indicated that Favre was calling it quits. The report first said that Favre had texted a bunch of players “this is it” indicating that he wasn’t comign back.
ESPN obviously ran with it, making up sources and blowing the story out of proportion. The news took over ESPN radio and ESPN news all day and night.
But there just weren’t any facts associated with the data. There were reports of the text messages, but Visanthe Shiancoe didn’t get it, Childress didn’t get it, and Favre’s longest teammate Ryan Longwell didn’t get it. I was skeptical all day, and didn’t understand why ESPN had run with the story without being able to name anyone who had gotten these texts. Continue reading
Crazy New Roethlisberger Case Details
Yesterday, it was announced that no charges for sexual assault would be filed against Ben Roethlisberger of the Steelers, citing “Not enough evidence to convict”.
Well since this, details of the case have just been pouring out, and it looks bad, real bad for Big Ben. I’d say worse than the Kobe Bryant rape case, by far.
The main source of evidence would have been the dozen cameras in the club. The footage was “taped over”, even though the club had been immediately asked to turn the footage over. Anyways, listen to these new tidbits from the case:

- Friends of Ben Roethlisberger‘s accuser say the NFL star’s bodyguards and the club owner refused to let them help their friend as she was allegedly being raped … this according to documents obtained from the Milledgeville Police Department.
- According to the court documents, witnesses told police they saw Ben’s bodyguard escort the alleged victim to a backroom where the tiny bathroom was located — and Ben followed shortly after.
- One of the accuser’s friends told police she approached Ben’s bodyguard and “told him that [the alleged victim] was in no shape to be back there with Ben.” The friend said she tried to open the bathroom door but it was locked, “and the security guards acted like they had no idea what was going on.” Continue reading
The Perfect Bracket: Odds and Stats (We’re All Screwed)
This year is the year. This is the year I fill out the perfect bracket. I mean come on, Duke has what experts are calling “the easiest road to the final four ever!” How could they not win it all? Last year I would have had a perfect bracket if I only had gotten like 25 more games right. Theres only 63 games, so I’m half way right? Wrong.
Is it possible to make the perfect NCAA bracket? Uhhh…. Statistically, yes. Logically, no. I’d be willing to bet 10 million dollars to any user that come up with the perfect bracket. I won’t. But if it made sense, I’d do it. And that’s exactly what CNN SI has done. They are offering a $10 million prize for the perfect bracket(split if multiple). Well they could probably afford to offer 300 million and be fine. So what are the Odds?
The Odds:
- There are 9 quintillion different combinations of brackets. That’s 9 million trillion. (Randomly selected teams)
- Predicting 63 games correctly (at 50% odds each game), is 2^63 which is 9,223372,036,854,780,000. Continue reading
Monday Night Pick: NYG(-3) at WAS
We have the Giants who are still in the playoff hunt needing to probably win out this season coming into Washington against a heavily underrated team. The offense has struggled all year but the defense has been the Redskins backbone. The ‘Skins have also been underestimated with the spread. They’ve beat the spread in 5 straight ballgames and have kept some high powered offenses at bay.
However, the Giants are a Superbowl winning team at the core, with players who are still hungry and looking to make another playoff run. The veterans on the Giants will propel them to the victory. Giants win and easily cover the spread (-3).
Hopefully some of you were lucky enough early in the week to catch the spread at -1 favoring the giants.
Chris Henry Dies at 26

Chris Henry, WR for Cincinnati has passed away following a domestic dispute with his girlfriend and being thrown from her truck bed at high speeds.
The impact on the Bengals players will be heavy. Henry has a troubled past with drugs, alcohol, and abuse but was said to be clean and on the way to a better life. It hasn’t been said what caused the dispute and led to Henry chasing after his girlfriend and jumping in her truck bed to eventually be thrown out.
This could impact the Bengals in a few ways. They play a big game with playoff implications against the 10-3 Chargers in just 3 days. The Bengals players could rally around the memory of their teammate and let this propel them to a Superbowl in his memory. It could also crumble the emotions and work ethics of the players, and be very dismal on the team’s success. The Bengals may be able to rally around this event and play some great football.
Henry had 12 receptions for 236 yards in 2009. Prayers go out to Henry’s family and the Bengals organization
