Terrell Owens Possible Destinations
A lot has been made about where Terrell Owens might end up and whether he’s worth it for any team to pick up after a dismal 2009 campaign in Buffalo. Well, first of all, that dismal campaign wasn’t all that bad.
T.O. was being thrown to by 2 QB’s that probably wouldn’t make back-up for any other team in the league (except the Lions, of course). Ryan Fitzpatrick and Trent Edwards split the snaps about 50/50 due to injury and performance. Both had a 70ish QB rating and both had more INT than TD.
T.O. had pretty good stats considering those two guys being the signal callers. He pulled in 55 catches for 829 yards with 5 TD. All of those are down relative to T.O. expectations and career averages, but he did have better numbers than the fast and very talented Lee Evans. T.O. Also pulled down a 9 catch 197 yard game with a 98 yard TD catch.
I think NFL teams know his value much better than the typically wrong media, and they also understand T.O.’s attitude weaknesses better than most NFL fans. But eventually Terrell will land on a team, and these are the ones that he can help the most. (Keep in mind T.O. wants a 4 million contract and to be in playoff contention)
Tennessee Titans
I think Terrell fits in Tennessee maybe the best of all the potential teams. Vince Young and Chris Johnson are rocking the ground game and T.O. on the outside would only open up the middle even more, and Owens is one of the best blockers at the WR position in the NFL.
T.O.’s game fits Vince Young’s passing game perfectly, and would provide a big target for Vince to throw his lasers to down field. Owens would help Vince Young and Kenny Britt develop. They have Nate Washington out wide too. But Washington only provided for 47 rec and a 12.1 reception average. Owens would instantly be the best WR on the roster at the age of 36, and would be a solid #2 to Kenny Britt with Washington as the third WR option.
Oakland Raiders
Unfortunately, this is where Owens will probably end up. The Raiders love character issues, and

paying guys amounts of money that are laughable to 31 NFL teams. Also, as crazy as it sounds, the Raiders will be in playoff contention this year.
Jason Campbell is now in town and the Raiders WR group is laughable. The top two WR’s by production last year were Louis Murphy and Chaz Schillens. WHO?!? Well, T.O. had better stats than those two combined, and would be a huge threat with Jason Campbell who like to go deep.
They just drafted Jacoby Ford (fastest 40 time at combine) and still have Darrius Heyward-Bey who was a #1 pick and was almost non-existent last year. But Owens would be Campbell’s #1 target from day 1.
Chicago Bears
T
his is another one that seems like a no-brainer for the team. The Bears need WR help and bad. Owens could be a slightly less productive Brandon Marshall for Cutler. Cutler loves to throw the ball up randomly to whoever looks tallest, and that has always been Terrell Owens largest strategic idea with him on the field.
Last year Hester was their leading receiver with Earl Bennett and Johnny Knox being the next two best options. Owens would instantly be the most talented WR on this team, like the Raiders, and would really help Hester get open to do his quickness thing on the short passes. Johnny Knowx would also really benefit at the #3 WR spot,
Don’t expect the Bears to make a good roster move and pick up Owens to help out Cutler and improve his 28 INT performance in 2009. But if they do, with Mike Martz calling the plays, they will suddenly have some weapons to deploy down field.
Carolina Panthers
The term no-brainer has to get thrown around again here. The Panthers have Steve Smith (recovering from a broken arm from flag football) and just about nothing else. The 37 year-old Muhsin Muhammad had a solid season last year with 53 catches and 581 yards coming across the middle across from Steve Smith.
Owens is far more talented, strong, and speedy than “Moose” was last year, and would provide instant support for a decent Matt Moore and potentially a Jimmy Clausen late in the season. Owens would also help open up the run game for DeAngelo Williams and Jonathon Stewart. Like the Titans, don;t expect the Panthers to shell out a lot of cash to Owens. But I think having a loud mouth WR across from T.O. would humble him or at the very least would give someone to argue with on the sidelines.
Other potential (but less likely) teams for Owens:
New York Jets: They picked up Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes, but they also picked up every other veteran in the NFL for a 1 year run at the title, so maybe they do that again with T.O.? Doubtful, but the Jets really will sign anyone and pay them what they want (except Revis).
Seattle Seahawks: Well it sure would make some sense, but Pete Carroll has said absolutely not, so don;t expect Owens here.
New England Patriots: Owens said he wants to go here and would take very little money. What? Randy Moss, Wes Welker, and T.O.? That’s not fair… And it’s stupid, this won’t happen.
San Diego Chargers: Chargers also came out and said uh-uh, we don’t want him. With Vincent Jackson holding out, it would make sense to at least entertain it, and put some pressure on Jackson, but the Chargers are poorly run.
Pittsburgh Steelers: They have enough attitude and moral issues that have led to the championship team crumbling apart, but Owens would make sense football-wise.
